We refer to this morning's (21 May 2008) TODAY Newspaper part of which reported that our Classified Portal www.listings.com.sg has been infected with a Javascript infection. I am pleased to inform you that we have done our maintenance and given a clean bill of health. Feel free to surf.

We have been a victim of our own success. Portal and WebSites are often targeted because of the popularity. The more visitors a site has, the higher the chances of propagating a malicious infection because the impact will then be greater. Since our beginning 8 years ago, we have seen a steady stream of regular visitors because unlike the other classified portals, you can get the contact information directly without the need for 'searching' which can be a tedious and time-consuming experience. Thanks to our virtual friends, we have now become THE place to go for contact information of 'well-known' establishments.

According to TODAY, over the past weekend alone, 327,000 websites in Asia were attacked using Javascript insertions, according to IT security consultancy Trend Micro. But only a small number of local websites were affected, F-Secure said. The attacks targeted Chinese-language websites and exploited vulnerabilities in Chinese-language software installed on computers such as Xunlei Thunder DapPlayer, said Trend Micro. This shows that the "malicious activity was targeted specifically at sites in China, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong", it added. F-Secure's investigations showed that most of the compromised websites in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong were commercial sites, such as those of kitchenware company Tafel's and Tianjin Lishen Battery. Listings.com.sg is part of a handful of local websites affected.
